Maryville has a lot of great outdoor things to do right around the corner. The best of these is the Great Smoky Mountains National Park. The Smokies are a favorite vacation spot for millions of people every year.
The Smoky Mountains offer visitors everything from quiet drives, hiking, fishing, kyaking and much, much more. There is also a lot of history in the area that makes it a wonderful place for those who like to see how it used to be. Every change of season is viewable here: flowers in spring, sunny summer skies, the myriad of colors in the fall and snow in winter.
When to Visit
Actually, there is no wrong time to visit the Smokies. Every part of the year is beautiful here. The Smoky Mountain National Park is the most visited of all the national parks, with over 9 million visitors in 2002!
What To Do
The park service charges no admission to access the park. The park offers over 800 miles of hiking on 150+ trails, campgrounds, back country camping, bicycling in Cades Cove, horseback riding, and hay rides. Nearby is Gatlinburg and Pigeon Forge, and Sevierville where you can find craft shops, restaurants, amusement parks (Dollywood), lodging and rental cabins, and sometimes too many people and traffic jams.
